Do you want an acupuncturist in Monterey or Santa Cruz whom you can really trust and feel comfortable with?
Look no further!
I have practiced acupuncture full-time for 16+ years My clinics in downtown Monterey and Aptos Village are immaculate, professional, and designed for comfort and deep relaxation. I specialize in sensitivity – this means I understand that people need different styles of acupuncture, and I tune into what you need right away. Whether you’re in pain, stressed, pregnant, sensitive, or excited about your treatment, I am able to match what you need. Women, men and teens are welcome.
Nervous about acupuncture?
Let that go! I use the Kiiko Matsumoto style of acupuncture, which is very gentle and extremely effective. I use fine Japanese "needles," the size of a hair. As a result of this delicate technique, most of my patients fall into a deep state of pleasurable relaxation. Acupuncture calms your nervous system. In fact, conventional doctors often refer patients to acupuncture for stress or anxiety. However, it does far more than that – it’s an entire system of medicine, capable of treating many conditions, including ones that fall through the cracks from a conventional medical lens.
Acupuncture does NOT need to be painful to work! I work with women with anxiety, trauma and pain, children and teens, and many of my patients are new to acupuncture and have no idea what to expect.
Resolve symptoms with a holistic mind-body approach
You are welcome and safe to bring your whole self to your treatment. Your thoughts, feelings, and physical symptoms are always connected. Every treatment is unique and private, and I meet you with mindfulness and compassion. This is what I personally love about acupuncture. You can come for physical symptoms as well as emotional and mood issues.
What can acupuncture do for your emotions and your brain? The Kiiko style is excellent for treating modern hormone, emotional, and brain issues. It takes neuroplasticity into account, the ability of the brain and nervous system to change at any age.
Are you injured or suffering from pain?
Come on in! This is another specialty of mine. I am certified in a form of sports medicine acupuncture called Muscle Channel Technique (MCT), and completed post-graduate courses in acupuncture orthopedics. In addition, my background as a Feldenkrais® Practitioner (movement rehabilitation) influences my treatment of acute and chronic pain. Women, men, and teens love my “smart” microcurrent tool for melting pain and healing tendons, muscles, swelling, joints, scar tissue, and fractures, because results are immediate and effective. Healing injuries does not need to hurt! When needed, I give Feldenkrais and other movement/exercise homework. I also add electro-stimulation or cupping when appropriate. The types of pain I help heal include:
- Low back pain – the #1 reason why people seek acupuncture.
- Stress-related pain like upper back and shoulder tension
- Arm and shoulder pain, from injuries or overuse conditions like tendonitis
- Post-surgery recovery
- Pelvic, uterus, and menstrual pain
- Pregnancy aches and pains
- Hip, knee, ankle and foot pain
- Arthritis pain
What can you expect at an acupuncture appointment?
Plan to spend one hour at your appointment. I am ready for you when you walk in the door, and I escort you to a quiet and relaxing treatment room that is clean and sterilized for your safety. You can wear loose comfortable clothes such as tank tops and shorts, skirts, or wide-legged pants. Or, you can remove clothing and slip under a sheet. You lie on a padded table, either on your back, stomach, or side. Acupuncture "needles" (these are so thin you can barely see them) are inserted painlessly, and then you relax alone with tranquil music for 15-40 minutes. You have a call button in case you need me for any reason. After the acupuncture does its magic, I remove the "pins" and you can take some time to sit up, drink water, and adjust to the new you. People feel deeply relaxed as they float out of the clinic. Extra add-ons that I provide if needed, at no charge:
- Electro-stim clipped on the needles
- Cupping (extra charge of $40 if this is a "feel good" desire rather than deemed a necessary part of the treatment)
- Brief advice about supplements
- Brief lab orders
- Herbal remedies, including custom-blended tinctures
- Nutrition and dietary recommendations
- Exercise and movement recommendations, including Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons.
