Are you sick and tired of not feeling your best and not knowing what to do about it?
Perhaps you feel tired, anxious, or inflamed. Or you may have stomach issues that were written off as "IBS," mysterious aches and pains, or you're not losing weight in spite of doing all the right things. Maybe your cycles are off, periods are too painful, or you have wicked PMS or hot flashes. You know you can feel better but you don't know what to do about it. So you stay up late combing the internet for answers. You diagnose yourself, order some supplements, and follow the latest diet trend, and then don't stick with it because you can't tell if it's right for you. Sound familiar?
I am here to tell you that I get it. You're not crazy and it's not all in your head. After all, YOU know your body the best. You're listening to the signals your body is giving you that something isn't right. Kudos for you for tuning into these signs, and wanting to solve them! You don't have to accept that the ways you feel out of whack are normal or par for the course because you're "female" or "getting older."
My job is to partner with motivated people like you as a medical and health consultant, coach, detective, and guide. With a functional medicine approach, I help you identify the steps to take to feel your best and get on with your amazing and important life!
By investigating and nailing down the underlying root causes of your symptoms, and using natural medicine to resolve them.
This is where functional medicine comes in
In functional medicine, we don’t simply mask symptoms with medications or even supplements. Instead, we investigate what went wrong and how to fix it. We delve deeply into how to fix broken hormones, moods, metabolism, energy, and immunity. Like a puzzle, symptoms that seem unrelated and random are often connected by the same body gone awry. For example, we may find that by:
- Fixing a gut bacteria imbalance resolves your bloating and constipation.
- Improving your detoxification pathways clears up your skin, stops your PMS, and eliminates your headaches.
- Addressing your adrenals nixes those perimenopausal hot flashes.
- Balancing your blood sugar solves your mysterious weight gain.
- Identifying a food intolerance brings your autoimmune disease into remission and fixes your brain fog.
- Testing for nutrient deficiencies and filling in the gaps improves your energy, stamina, and immune resilience.
How to start the process of working with me?
If you're not sure if I can help you, you can start with a free discovery intake. I review these personally, answer your questions, and let you know how familiar I am with your concerns. If you want to skip this step you can go ahead and book a new patient appointment. And if you want to talk to me on the phone before deciding, you can book a 15-minute discovery call with me for a fee. During this call, we can discuss which labs to order in advance of becoming a patient, from your doctor or from my shop. In functional medicine we take a "test don't guess" approach, meaning we prefer to get body data from blood, urine, saliva, and stool to nail down your diagnosis and treatment plan. It's helpful to have labs on board as a new patient, and I review these before your first appointment so we can hit the ground running. If you have insurance coverage for labs, I can order these for you once you become a patient, not during a discovery call.
Then what happens if you become a patient?
You book a new patient appointment for $350. You receive your intake form link in a secure email and take your time completing it. You gather blood work and any prior relevant labs and upload them in this form. Before our first appointment, I review your case so that I am familiar with and prepared to get to work.
What happens at your first appointment?
We meet face to face (in-person or video) for one hour. We start by clarifying your health goals. We review your symptoms, timeline, and relevant history. We decide which new labs to order if needed, both bloodwork and investigative functional labs. We discuss your treatment plan. Afterward, I write up your plan clearly and concisely and deliver it on my secure patient portal, where we communicate privately between appointments.
What is in a treatment plan?
Your plan will include evidence-based personalized lifestyle interventions that include changes in food, stress management, sleep habits, and movement. We don’t give you supplements to mask symptoms! This is why functional medicine appeals to folks who want to do their own work but need a guide to help them get the right labs and figure out what work (change) is right for them. I design your supplements, customize your nutrition, and prescribe herbal medicine. I do not prescribe pharmaceuticals.
How many appointments do you need?
Functional medicine is a process, similar to when you go for counseling or physical therapy. It's not usually a "one and done" appointment although there are some exceptions. Peeling the layers back and healing your root imbalances is a process. Follow-up appointments are usually once a month until you've reached your goals. This tends to be the right amount of time to assess your progress and to change your treatment plan as you change.
