Why fast, and why do it with food?
The whole point of fasting is to get into a state of autophagy. This happens when you go without food for long enough. Autophagy literally means “self-eating,” and it’s when you clean out cell and tissue debris. This allows you to reduce inflammation, promote regeneration, reset your metabolism, and boost your overall physical and mental performance.
Professor Walter Longo, a longevity researcher, discovered that eating precise amounts of plant-based foods allows you to prolong the benefits of fasting and autophagy over five days. Fasting with food allows you to fast safely, without losing valuable muscle or feeling faint, while still inducing autophagy and prolonging it for days to heighten the benefits. This program is based on Longo’s research and is Dr. Paris’s closest approximation of Longo’s recommendations.

How does this program work?
Once you sign up, you have access to the program for one year, during which you can choose from the different fasts. The layout and instructions are very clear and user-friendly. If you need help or support, you can ask questions in the comments section of the program directed to Dr. Paris. You’re welcome to do a 5-day fast as often as once per month, but not more frequently. The general recommendation is once per month for three months. However, many people choose to do a fast twice a year, once a year, or every quarter/season.

ABOUT LAURA
Dr. Laura Paris, DACM, is an acupuncturist, functional medicine practitioner, and certified nutrition consultant.
She has long been a student of food and nutrition and is living successfully with a 20-year old diagnosis of aggressive Rheumatoid Arthritis. She attributes her health largely to diet, nutrition, and hacking her gut microbiome. It’s Laura’s passion to guide others on therapeutic nutrition paths.
