Why fast, and why do it with food?
The whole point of fasting is to get into a state of autophagy. This happens when you go without food for long enough. Autophagy literally means “self-eating,” and it’s when you clean out cell and tissue debris. This allows you to reduce inflammation, promote regeneration, reset your metabolism, and boost your overall physical and mental performance.
Professor Valter Longo, a longevity researcher, discovered that eating precise amounts of plant-based foods allows you to prolong the benefits of fasting and autophagy over five days. Fasting with food allows you to fast safely, without losing valuable muscle or feeling faint, while still inducing autophagy and prolonging it for days to heighten the benefits. This program is based on Longo’s research and is Dr. Paris’s closest approximation of the ProLon® Fasting Mimicking Diet.

How does this program work?
Once you sign up, you have immediate access to the program where you can choose from the three different fasts. The layout and instructions are very clear and user-friendly. If you need help or support, you can ask questions in the comments section of the program directed to Dr. Paris, and your comments will be answered within three business days. You’re welcome to do a 5-day fast as often as once per month, but not more frequently. The general recommendation is once per month for three months. However, many people choose to do a fast twice a year, once a year, or every quarter/season.

About Dr. Laura Paris
Dr. Laura Paris is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, a double-certified Functional Medicine practitioner, and a certified Nutrition Consultant. She specializes in women’s hormone balance (including metabolism and insulin) and in autoimmunity.
She became interested in the Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD) in 2018, and since many of her patients have food sensitivities as well as financial constraints, she embarked on creating DIY approximations of the FMD. In 2019 she ran a trial group, who completed one of her DIY Fasts every month for three consecutive months. This group completed before and after blood work and had remarkable improvements in CRP, lipids, hemoglobin A1C, autoantibodies, fasting blood sugar, and insulin.
